OT: Exhaust question

Ok, here is what is on my mind....What is the cause the exhaust to drone, you know, like a nasty weed wacker....I had Greddy Evo on my car in about an year ago, I was imrpessed by the sound, and sold it now i have it again and let me tell you that thing sounds like ass.... The only change since then is the testpipe and the headers. I was thinking since i have the testpipe 2.5" all around and on one side the DC which is 1.9-2" or something like that and on the other side the 2.4" Greddy. Now is that the problem- the differences in diameters to create turbulence that will make the exhaust to resonate more than it should instead of free flowing( by the way it cold and the exhaust hasnt been driven yet if that can cause some of it too)????? It really does start to drone around 4-5000rpms...Please help Im stummped... The Greddy sounded soo much better than now.....

P.S. Holden, you have a Greddy and a testpipe, how does yours sound- nice and deep all the way to the top???

is your test pipe resonated ? if it isnt and the greddy (b) mid pipe lacks a resonated section also this would make for a loud exhaust .

Firstly, let me say that I love Greddy exhausts. But what you're saying sounds like a problem that I once had. Over time, some Greddy exhausts have baffling problems in the muffler, particularly if you drive hard. I had mine warrantied and replaced.

217gsr: So what you are saying is that my problem is in the muffler of the exhaust itself??? By the way you mentioned over time and my exhaust is brand new, even the car hasnt been driven- in storage for the winter.

I have a hollowed out stock catalytic converter in my car ... you you can imagine how big the pressure difference would be when exhaust gases get to the hollowed out portion.
My car sounded like a "tin-can fart" at the begining. It turned out, there was an exhaust leak at the catalytic converter and the catback. Anyways, when I finally put one in...peace once again

Oh. I didn't know your exhaust was new. And yes, when I suggested the muffler. . . the baffling within the muffler was the culprit. But if your exhaust is new. . .that shouldn't be the problem.

its your testpipe

I got a 94 gsr, i had a greddy evo... with everything else stock it sound NIIIIIICE. I put on a DC 4-2-1 header and a Resonated 2.25" testpipe sounded like ASS. i put the original cat back on, sounded NIIIIICE again. its the bloody testpipe. i even bought a resonated one so to try and avoid that, but didn't work.

i ended up selling it all and now i got a comptech header/carsound-cat/itr catback

nice and quiet but still a little better than stock.
